Biography

Noelia García Castillo obtained her PhD with honors in Communication and her Bachelor’s Degree in Advertising and Public Relations from Complutense University  in Madrid (UCM). At the same institution, she studied a Graduate Degree in Images Creation Techniques and Processes.

Her current research focuses on Responsible Research and Innovation (RRI), on Communication and social groups at risk of exclusion, and on Teaching Innovation. Her studies have been published by seven journals and eight book chapters in renowned publishers in the field of Communication such as Nordicom, Fragua and Campgràfic. Some of her research has been covered by Spanish newspapers (La Razón, La Vanguardia, ABC, El Mundo, Muy Interesante and El Economista). She has been interviewed as an expert by La Voz de Galicia, Telemadrid and Radio Pública Asturias.

In 2011 she started to work at Complutense University of Madrid with a doctoral scholarship granted by the Spanish Ministry of Education, Culture and Sports. After her PhD, she continued working at the same university as a social researcher at the Department of Software Engineering and Artificial Intelligence (Faculty of Computer Science and Engineering) and as a member of the Research Group on Agent-Based, Social and Interdisciplinary Applications (GRASIA). Currently, she is an honorary collaborator at the Department of Communication Theories and Analysis (Faculty of Media & Communication Science).

Throughout her eight years of research and teaching experience, she has taught diverse subjects in the areas of Communication, Marketing and Applied Research at Complutense University, Nebrija University, Comillas Pontifical University, EAE Business School and International University of La Rioja. She was also a visiting scholar at the School of Communication and Media Studies (IPL- Politécnico de Lisboa). She has worked in corporate and institutional communication at Omnicom Media Group and at the Cervantes Institute. She has been an evaluator for the innovation and social entrepreneurship program Ruta Quetzal BBVA.

She has participated in research projects funded by the European Commission, the Spanish Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness, the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees and Banco Santander; as well as in teaching innovation projects funded by Complutense University. She has participated as a speaker at eight international conferences and she has been a guest speaker at the University of Vigo. She is a reviewer of the academic journals adComunica and Nexus. She has also been board member of degree’s theses, master’s theses and doctoral theses.
